The day you meet your baby is a once in a lifetime experience. Birth is beautiful and it can be very intense, emotional, difficult, and joyous. A birth photographer captures your story in an artful way and allows you to see your birth from a different perspective. It also lets your partner and your support team focus completely on you and not have to worry about grabbing a camera. You deserve to have 100% of their attention and have them in the photos as well!
Someone once asked me “What would I even do with the photos?” In today’s age where many people take photos to share them, it might seem odd to have something so personal photographed. But these images are for YOU. Birth photos have the power to help you see your own strength, the love between you and your partner, and the support of your team. They preserve the moment you see your baby’s face for the first time and let you relive it over and over. It’s the chance to give yourself a gift you’ll cherish now and forever.

Being on call 24/7 for four weeks is a significant time commitment. It means always being somewhere with cell service, having my camera and gear packed, and being ready to drop everything and come to you at any given moment. I might be attending your birth for 2 hours or 32 hours. Birth can be a wild ride and there’s no way to know for sure how long it will last! Then there are all of the behind the scenes business expenses and childcare for my own littles. Plus, Bay Area, ya know?

Often when people hear birth photography, they think of crowning shots but there’s so much more to it. There’s the laboring process, the connections with your birth team, baby snuggles after their arrival, the detail shots of the room, the whole story. While I can’t guarantee zero nudity, if you’d prefer I avoid photos below the waist or certain angles, I can definitely do that.

Most hospitals have strict policies on who is allowed in the OR. Oftentimes the patient is the one who advocates for the photographer to be included. I will do my best to be allowed in, but ultimately it is up to the OB and anesthesiologist who will decide. I will stay and take photos leading up to it and be there when you come out. The photos will still illustrate how your birth story unfolded.

Birth can be unpredictable! I will do my absolute best to be there but sometimes things happen. In the unlikely event that I do miss your birth, I will either send a back up photographer or I will still take photos in a way that documents your story once I arrive. If I need to, I will come back the next day to take more photos to ensure you get more images.

I would love to share your photos to help others see the beauty of birth, but ultimately these are your photos. If you don’t want them shared, they won’t be. There is a model release form that you’ll sign before baby’s arrival where you can share with me your preferences. You’re also allowed to change your mind. If you think you’re okay with it, but then after baby’s arrival you decide you don’t want to anymore, that’s okay! Everything I share is with explicit consent.

Nope, I also do fresh 48 and in home newborn sessions!
Fresh 48 is a great alternative if having a birth photographer isn’t the route you want to go because you can still get photos in the hospital with your brand new baby once the excitement of the delivery has passed. At home newborn sessions are relaxed and cozy while still capturing the details and newness of life with your little one!
